Fund Raising Priorities

The Methodist Medical Center Foundation welcomes your gifts on behalf of the health of our community. At this time we are most in need of your support for:

The Campaign for the College of Nursing
The Campaign for Camp Courageous

The Campaign for the College of Nursing

Nursing has always been the cornerstone of patient care. But rapid innovations in the healthcare arena are placing new demands on the nursing profession. These changing dynamics have inspired us to take a fresh look at the educational needs of nurses and how Methodist can better meet those needs.

Our new College of Nursing baccalaureate program will prepare the nurses of tomorrow. For over 100 years, Methodist has been a major provider of nursing education. More than 3,000 nurses have graduated from our program - the vast majority staying in the Peoria area, where they have provided quality, compassionate healthcare.

However, today's educational preparation of Registered Nurses nationwide has progressed from the traditional diploma program offered at Methodist to Bachelor of Science nursing programs. In the fall of 2002, the first baccalaureate class enrolled in the new Methodist Medical Center College of Nursing.

The College of Nursing is an upper-division program consisting of 2 years of general education coursework obtained from an accredited college, followed by 2 years of coursework in the Nursing Major at Methodist. Graduates of the program receive a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree. A special track for RNs who want to advance their careers with a BSN degree will begin enrollment in Fall 2003.

Your Gift Makes a Difference

Undertaking a major change in our educational program requires a great deal of time, effort, and financial investment. Our campaign goal is to raise $1 million to support Methodist Medical Center's new College of Nursing program.

Your gift will support a wide range of needs, including classroom improvements, residence hall enhancements, computer lab upgrades, library improvements, and scholarships.

The Methodist Medical Center Foundation recognizes donor contributions to the Campaign as follows:

The Campaign for Camp Courageous

Grieving children often feel isolated because they rarely know anyone their age who has experienced the death of a loved one. Methodist founded Camp Courageous to meet the needs of children who have experienced such a loss.

Camp Courageous is a one-day camp that offers both support and fun. Children take part in a wide range of activities, including crafts and horseback riding. Along the way, trained grief counselors help the children as they share their experiences with one another - validating each other's feelings and lessening their sense of isolation. Together, they help heal each other.

Camp Courageous is open to children and teens, ages 5 through 18, who have experienced the death of a family member or close friend. The camp is provided as a free service of Methodist Medical Center's Hospice Services. Funding is provided through the Methodist Medical Center Foundation.

Your Gift Helps the Children

Camp Courageous began in October 2000. The camp was at capacity this year, serving 65 children. The Methodist Medical Center Foundation is committed to continuing to provide this service at no charge to the participants. Our campaign goal is to raise $250,000 to endow the programs and services of Camp Courageous.

Your gift will make it possible for Camp Courageous to continue to reach out to grieving children in Central Illinois. Through your generous support, Camp Courageous will remain a place of support, understanding, and fun year after year.

Please call the Foundation at (309) 672-5741 for information on how you can give to support the Campaign for the College of Nursing.
